The following is a message from John Wilson Jr. of the NYC DEP HazMat: There are job openings for students that have (or about to graduate with) a BS, BA, MS, MA or Ph.D  in our Emergency Response Unit.  We are looking for Chemists, Chemical Engineers, BioChemists and related fields of study (environmental engineering, biology, environmental science/ studies, toxicology, forensic science, physics, biomedical engineering – they must have a minimum of 16 credits in chemistry, and must be a US citizen or have a working green card – student visa’s are not acceptable) .  NYC DEP HazMat is the New York City leader in response to Hazardous Materials incidents.  The NYC DEP HazMat Unit has the responsibility under the New York City CISM document to Identify, Mitigate and Enforce the City Hazardous Materials Laws at Hazardous Materials Incidents within the five Boroughs.   NYC DEP HazMat is a unique group of Scientist, and engineers that help keep our City safe.  (more…)

Post-Bachelor Fellowship Program at the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation

Call for Applications (NOTE JANUARY 15, 2009 APPLICATION DEADLINE)

The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington is now accepting applications for the Post-Bachelor Fellowship Program for the Fall 2009 cohort.

The Post-Bachelor Fellowship (PBF) Program provides a unique opportunity for recent college graduates with strong quantitative skills to train with faculty and senior researchers on a variety of global heath projects. The PBF program combines advanced on-the-job training and mentoring, and provides the option of pursuing a fully-funded Masters of Public Health (MPH). Through research, training workshops, coursework and field experience in developing countries, the PBF program aims to produce the next generation of scholars and leaders in global health measurement and evaluation. Federal Agency Looking For Fall Chemistry Intern Monday, September 22, 2008

The National Association For Equal Opportunity in Higher Education (NAFEO) is the umbrella organization for Historically and Predominantly Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU’s) –(you can find out more about it at www.nafeo.org) They have an internship program where they currently partner with federal agencies in Washington DC and provide internship opportunities for students from Their member organization. They have run into a unique situation where one of the Agencies has an office in Jamaica New York and they can not provide a student from our institutions to fill that position (most of our members are located in the South, Mid-Atlantic, Southeast, and Southwest regions).

Summer Research Opportunity for NYU & Polytechnic Undergraduates Wednesday, April 2, 2008

The Office of the Dean of Undergraduate Academics announces a program that will support summer research opportunities of up to 25 undergraduate students. The selected students will have the opportunity to get involved in cutting-edge research with Poly faculty. The summer research internships will run for 10 weeks, June 16 - August 18 2008. The internships consist of a weekly stipend of $375 for the student ($3,750 for 10 weeks). Students who are interested in the program should submit the attached application form and a description of their objectives and goals, to Chrystanyaa Brown (cbrown@poly.edu) by May 1, 2008. All applications and supporting documents must be submitted via email.

The range of research projects in which students may participate in is quite extensive. Applicants are encouraged to learn about faculty doing research in their areas of interest and coordinate with their faculty summer research advisors. Partial listing of on-going research projects is attached.

Eligibility:
Eligible students must be a Polytechnic or NYU undergraduate student with at least 32 credits earned and have a minimum GPA of 3.2.
