Tutor & Mentor Students in the Sciences at the School of the Future Wednesday, February 25, 2009

Volunteers will visit the School of the Future weekly and mentor students working on their exhibition projects (described below) as well as tutor students who need additional help in the sciences. This is a perfect way to give back to the local community and foster interest in the sciences. Available time periods would be Tuesdays from 11:35AM-12:30PM and afternoons 3:15-4:15PM. As we are already partway into the semester, we ask that anyone interested in volunteering at the School of the Future apply by Monday, March 9th (see below).

Trip to Brookhaven National Labs Sunday, December 28, 2008

Their research includes but is not limited to the nuclear technology, high energy physics, life and physical sciences, medicine and homeland security.
Brookhaven is a potential employer (careers and internships) for postdocs, graduate and undergraduate students in the sciences. They came searching for our students at the Fall 2008 career fair.

New PhD Program at Georgia Tech – Deadline 1/15/09 Wednesday, December 10, 2008

Georgia Tech now offers a PhD Program in International Affairs, Science, and Technology.
If any of your undergraduate or masters students are interested in a pursuing a PhD at a program which specializes in S&T politics and licy, then please alert them of this new opportunity. Any science/engineering majors (especially those pursuing a political science, policy, or economics minor) would be a good fit for this program.
The department’s faculty includes political scientists, physicists, chemists, computer scientists, and policy experts from across a wide spectrum of issue areas and regional specialties. Students will also be encouraged to incorporate faculty from the various science & engineering departments at Georgia Tech into their dissertation committees.

Presentation at Polytech ACS Chapter Saturday, December 6, 2008

Refreshments will be served. Randy Rosler, from GeneWize Life Sciences, will be the speaker for this event.
The presentation will touch on 3 things:
1. The Product and some of the science behind it: A unique product launch from a pioneering company. GeneWize is the world’s first company to take 14 years of research revolving around DNA, Nutrition and Genetics and combine this into a product that is customized for an individual based on their DNA.
2. The Business Model: How the parent company (GeneLink) formed GeneWize, a direct sales company to distribute this product.
3. How the company is continuing to grow even in this recession.
